Joyful Chores?

I do not win the award for “Best Homemaker” but I do have some wisdom I’ve gained over the years. Any wisdom I do have to offer is all from God & He gets ALL the glory!

When we have chores to do, let’s face it, sometimes, we can get overwhelmed. Depending on health issues and raising children, you may be under additional stress.

Chores can seem like a burden and we forget that we can have peace & joy when we set out to do these responsibilities. And I’m not advocating for a false or ‘fake happy’ demeanor.

I do not believe grumbling while doing our tasks glorifies God. Our main purpose in life is to:

Again, we actually CAN have real peace & joy when we do chores. We don’t have to be perfect to have a sense of peace when doing these things. When we walk in the Spirit, we are able to bear fruit.

Love

Joy

Peace

Patience

Kindness

Goodness

Faithfulness

Gentleness

Self-Control

“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit….But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.” ~Romans 8

I love how God reminds us that we are not in the flesh. We have to remind ourselves everyday of this. We need the gospel desperately everyday, not just on Sundays.

Writing about chores may seem unimportant and trivial, but I don’t think so. If I can encourage others (and myself) to have a sense of joy when doing these daily activities then that is what I will do!

Washing dishes? Allow the warm water to relax you and watch the dirt & grime be washed away.

Vacuuming? Watch your carpet & rugs get an instant re-fresh.

Laundry? Watch the dirty piles (and I have big ones!) get smaller and feel the satisfaction of putting away clean clothes.

Dusting? Seek the visual satisfaction of wiping away dust and grime, revealing clean furniture.

Preparing food? Try to enjoy the process and the final outcome.

You get it. It actually feels good to see things cleaned up. It feels good to make a meal and then sit down to eat it. We may not do it perfectly and may not even be able to complete all of the tasks we had set out to do….but, ultimately, though, give gratitude to God that you have clothes to clean, food to fill the dishes you wash, etc…

Seek out a joyful heart while you go through your day. It is good for your soul 💜
