Are you struggling with keeping your home? Well, you are not alone. I do have a lot of growing to do in this area. I tend to focus mostly on the art, the aesthetic, the outward beauty, of keeping my home – I absolutely love design (decor and placement of furniture and art etc. within a space). I enjoy the thrill of thrifting (and even more lately, the joy of “shopping” in my own house – finding things I already have/moving things around to create a new look). While it is important and fun to make our homes visually pleasing, let’s face it, we need to cleeeeean them as well! That dust won’t go away on its own. Those dirty dishes – the food bits are just making a home for bacteria. You get my point – the laundry can’t fold itself….but don’t feel defeated though!
I enjoy a little bit of everything when in the ‘mood’. Namely, hand washing dishes, some sweeping, a little dusting, wiping down cabinets, sweeping my area rugs (I have memories of my grandmother sweeping her carpet with a broom π§Ή. Yes, we can vacuum but there is just something about sweeping an area rug π€·ββοΈ.) My least favorite cleaning tasks are probably mopping and the dishwasher.
My suggestion is simple – just aim to do the tasks. Make a list of easily missed tasks (I need to do this) and put it somewhere where you will see it and actually refer to it βΊοΈ.) Be faithful in trying to have a hopeful, good attitude. If you have children, be sure to delegate to them – it is their home too. Ensure they have responsibilities. But on our end, try to actually ENJOY doing the particular cleaning task at hand! There is always something, some part of the task, that we can find enjoyable and/or relaxing in the moment!
I do realize though, that sometimes the motivation is just NOT happening, there are too many distractions, or perhaps we are rushed and feeling stressed. Sometimes, we just have to push through it and persevere – knowing that in the end we gain a victory & the beauty of completion – for life is filled with MANY tiny victories. A tiny victory is still a victory!
But…if you don’t complete your tasks, if perhaps sluggishness, hard times…or even laziness…gets the best of you, don’t give up. If you mess up, get back up, and aim for the next right response/approach. You CAN make cleaning fun – put on some good music and dance away, listen to a podcast, light a candle…..or just hula hoop away!ππ
